Several generations of Christs were hatmakers in Nazareth, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, between 1780 and 1900. Henry Chapman Mercer purchased this sign, as well as another more elaborate Christ sign, for the collection from dealer Henry K. Deisher of Kutztown, Pennsylvania. The original is the work of: Collection of the Mercer Museum of the Bucks County Historical Society, Gift of Henry Chapman Mercer, 1918. |
